USC players may have been involved in Spokane brawl

Spokane, Wash., police are investigating claims that several players on the Southern California men's basketball team were involved in a brawl that sent four people were sent to a hospital on Sunday.

No arrests have been made and the names of those involved in the incident have not been confirmed, according to the Spokesman-Review newspaper. The brawl occurred at a Spokane bar called The Wave.

USC stayed in Spokane after falling to Washington State by 15 points on Saturday night. The game was played in Pullman, about an hour's drive from Spokane.

"We are just learning of this report," USC sports information director Tim Tessalone told The Spokesman Review. "We are just kind of looking into it and trying to find out the facts."

Witnesses told police that basketball players were involved in the incident but also heard contradicting reports.

"We had a large fight. We have not been able to find any connection to any sports team," officer John Gately said. "Some of the witnesses said USC, but others said Arizona State and USF (University of San Francisco)."

Arizona State was at the University of Arizona on Saturday and the University of San Francisco was eliminated from the West Coast Conference tournament Thursday in Las Vegas.

Noel Macapagal, an employee and former owner of The Wave Sushi and Sports Grill in Spokane, said he was called by fellow employees about the incident at 1 a.m. Sunday.

"We had a person knocked out cold, a female employee who suffered a broken nose and another employee with a broken jaw as well," Macapagal said.
