‘This Is Us’ Ratings Rise For Fall Finale; ‘Flash’ Steady With 2015; ‘S.H.I.E.L.D.’ Down

With less than three weeks until Christmas, we’re well into the fall finale zone, and last night saw some serious family holiday time and a speedy retreat of sorts.

The latter was The Flash (1.2/4), with an expected drop from the Season 3 highs of last week’s crossover episode. The Scarlet Speedster was down 20% among adults 18-49 from that November 29 episode but even with the fast affiliate of its Season 2 winter finale last December 8; that show went up a tenth in the final numbers. Lead-out No Tomorrow (0.3/1) was even with last week’s final numbers.

Once again the top show of the night and again building on The Voice (1.9/7), this season’s Big 4 breakout This Is Us (2.8/9) is up a tenth from last week to match the season high of its September 20 premiere and its October 11 episode in the key demo. Rising 3% from the previous viewership high of last week, the “Last Christmas” winter finale of the Dan Fogelman-created show hit a new audience benchmark of 10.9 million — the best any NBC scripted show has done on a Tuesday since the long-ago TV era of March 10, 2009.

With The Voice and Chicago Fire (1.7/6) both even with their November 29 shows, NBC easily won the night with a 2.1/7 rating. The viewership top spot went to CBS, with 11.79 million tuning for its primetime of NCIS (1.7/6), Bull (1.5/5) and NCIS: New Orleans (1.2/4). The most watched show of the night with 14.49 million sets of eyeballs, NCIS saw a demo drop of 11% from its previous original on November 22. Bull and NCIS: NOLA were even with their last new shows of two weeks ago.

Fox’s Brooklyn Nine-Nine (1.0/4), New Girl (0.8/3) and Scream Queens (0.5/2) also were unchanged from last week. The 10 PM winter finale of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. (0.8/3) was the same as the spy series’ November 29 show but down 38% among the 18-49s from its Season 3 winter finale at 9 PM on December 8, 2015.

ABC newbie American Housewife (1.4/5) is currently even with its fast affiliate results of last week – results that saw a rise of a tenth in the final numbers. The Middle (1.4/5), Fresh Off the Boat (1.1/4) and The Real O’Neals (0.8/3) were all down two-tenths from their November 29 shows.
