Urijah Hall Continues to Impress on TUF 17

Yahoo Contributor Network

COMMENTARY | UFC president Dana White called him "the nastiest guy in Ultimate Fighter history," and it's hard to argue with his assessment. Urijah Hall has been a destructive force during his fights that have been aired so far on the 17th season of The Ultimate Fighter, finishing all of his opponents in extremely devastating fashion.

After settling for a decision during the qualifiers to earn a spot on the reality series, Hall (7-2-0, 4 KOs) stopped his first opponent Adam Cella with a vicious spinning-back kick that was deemed the most brutal knockout in TUF history by many. He was just as impressive during his quarterfinal bout against Robert "Bubba" McDaniel, stopping the Texan with a ferocious straight right. As with Cella, McDaniel remained motionless on the canvas for about a minute after the fight ending strike, a testament to Hall's devastating striking power.

Urijah will now face Dylan Andrews in the semifinals, and we'll get to watch him compete live at the TUF 17 Finale on April 13, if he emerges victorious against the New Zealand native. Given how good Hall has looked so far inside the Octagon, it's only rational to expect him to put on another dominant performance.

Without a doubt, Hall is clearly one of the most imposing figures in TUF history, and I for one look forward to watching him compete in the UFC's middleweight division. He certainly looks like he's good enough to contend for the 185 pound title one day, as Chael Sonnen stated after Hall's fight against McDaniel.

"You're a contender Urijah for the title," Sonnen assured Hall after the fight. "I spent five years in that weight class. You're a contender."

The only other fighter who has been anywhere close to being as impressive as Urijah on TUF 17 is Josh Samman -- who has also stopped both of his opponents on the show in the first round, albeit in less devastating fashion. Still, Josh, who has displayed solid grappling and striking skills, is still the biggest threat to Hall in the TUF 17 house, and it sure would be nice to see the two go at it at the Finale.
