GREENSBORO, N.C. (AP) -- Kayel Locke and Kyle Cain each scored 21 points as UNC Greensboro topped High Point 82-74 in the season opener for both teams.
It was Cain's first career game for UNCG (1-0) after transferring from Arizona State and sitting out last season due to NCAA transfer rules. Tyrone Outlaw also had a strong debut, coming off the bench to score 14 points and grab nine rebounds in his first collegiate game.
UNCG (1-0) led for all but a stretch of 19 seconds just after halftime as they avenged an 81-73 loss to High Point (0-1) in last year's season opener. It was UNCG's first season-opening win in six years.
UNCG went 25-of-40 from the free throw line, including 7-of-8 in the final minute. High Point shot just 1-of-14 on 3-pointers. Allan Chaney led High Point with 21 points and 12 rebounds.
