SPARTANBURG, S.C. (AP) -- David Robertson scored a career-high 18 points as UNC Asheville held off USC Upstate for a 73-63 win Sunday.
Robertson and Andrew Rowsey scored six points apiece in a 17-2 run by Asheville (3-7) which resulted in a 27-18 lead with just over 3 minutes to play in the first half. The Bulldogs would not trail again.
The Spartans cut Asheville's lead to 10 with just under 6 minutes to play. Fred Miller then came up with a steal and was intentionally fouled giving USC Upstate two free throws and the ball. Miller missed both shots from the stripe and the Spartans came up empty on the ensuing possession.
Rowsey led Asheville with 19 points and Jaron Lane added 14, hitting 12 of 12 free throw attempts.
USC Upstate hit 19 of 55 (34.5 percent) field goals and 5 of 18 (27.8 percent) 3-point shots.
