Umpires Kellogg, West, Davis get early plate duty

NEW YORK (AP) -- Jeff Kellogg will be the home plate umpire for the AL wild-card tiebreaker between the Tampa Bay Rays and Texas Rangers.

Major League Baseball on Monday announced the umpire crews through the division series. The umpires for the World Series and both championship series will come later.

Kellogg will be joined by crew chief Tim Welke, Bruce Dreckman, Chris Guccione, Tom Hallion and Ron Kulpa for Monday night's game in Texas.

Kulpa was the plate umpire Sunday in Miami when Henderson Alvarez pitched a no-hitter against Detroit.

Gerry Davis, who has worked a record 115 postseason games, will be the plate umpire for Wednesday night's AL wild-card matchup. Cleveland will host either the Rays or Rangers.

Davis will work with Ted Barrett, Mike Everitt, Greg Gibson, Phil Cuzzi and Brian Knight.

Joe West, who leads active umpires with 36 years of big league work, will handle the plate for the NL wild-card game in Pittsburgh on Tuesday night featuring Cincinnati and the Pirates. His crew includes Dale Scott, Dan Iassogna, Rob Drake, Tim Timmons and Lance Barksdale.

Jerry Layne will be the crew chief for the division series between St. Louis and the wild card. Wally Bell, Sam Holbrook, Jim Joyce, Paul Nauert and Tony Randazzo are working with Layne.

John Hirschbeck heads the crew doing the series between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Atlanta. Laz Diaz, Marvin Hudson, Bill Miller, Hunter Wendelstedt and Welke join Hirschbeck.

Dana DeMuth leads a crew that includes Eric Cooper, Paul Emmel, Chris Guccione, Larry Vanover and Mike Winters for the series between Boston and the AL wild card.

Gary Darling is the crew chief for the Detroit-Oakland matchup, joined by CB Bucknor, Mike DiMuro, Jim Reynolds, Mark Wegner and Hallion.
