CHICAGO -- Gary Talton hit a go-ahead 3 pointer with 17 seconds to play as Illinois-Chicago snapped a three-game losing streak with a 65-60 victory over Youngstown State in Wednesday's Horizon League season opener for both at the Pavilion. Talton's successful shot gave the Flames (10-4, 1-0) the lead for good at 62-60 as he went on to score a team-high 17 points. Hayden Humes scored 15, Josh Crittle had 14 and Daniel Barnes added 10 for the winners. Kendrick Perry scored a game-high 19 points for the Penguins (8-6, 0-1) while Blake Allen had 12 points and 10 rebounds, Kamren Belin had 11 and D.J. Cole added 10. UIC forced a 29-29 halftime deadlock as Talton and Josh Crittle each scored in the final 2:09. Perry paced the Penguins with 10 first-half points while Humes had 10 for the Flames. Both teams resume league play Saturday. The Flames are at Cleveland State while the Penguins remain in Chicago to battle Loyola.
