Thiago Silva finished Stanislov Nedkov in the third round of their UFC Macao fight on Saturday.
Silva forced a takedown and locked in an arm triangle at 1:45 of the final round, forcing his opponent to tap.
"I just [got] the right opportunity to take him down," Silva said after the win.
Nedkov came out as the aggressor early on, pressing Silva against the cage and throwing several haymakers. Silva responded and the two began to trade punches in a flurry. The Brazilian was able to score some points with knees in the clinch, but Nedkov responded well with strikes of his own for a competitive first round.
The second round began with a low blow by Silva. After a short break, Nedkov clinched his opponent against the cage and the pace slowed. The referee separated the two, and punches began to fly before another clinch slowed the pace again. Nedkov looked as through he began to tire, and ate some punches from his opponent. Silva was working well with punches and kicks until Nedkov landed a right hand that dropped his the Brazilian. The round ended with Nedkov raining punches from top position.
Nedkov looked to continue to land the right hand in the third, but was tired. Silva capitalized and shot for the takedown where he worked to mount. From there, he finished the fight with a head and arm choke.
Silva wins his first fight in nearly three years with his performance on Saturday, while Nedkov suffers the first loss of his career.
