UFC on FX 6 Results and Recap

Yahoo Contributor Network

COMMENTARY | "UFC on FX 6" wasn't a star-studded event, but it turned out to be a very entertaining fight card. The event served as the finale of "The Ultimate Fighter: The Smashes," headlined by opposing coaches George Sotiropoulos and Ross Pearson.

Here are the results of the UFC on FX 6 fight card held on Dec. 15 at the Gold Coast Convention Centre in Queensland, Australia:

Ross Pearson def. George Sotiropoulos

Pearson established himself as the superior striker early in their UFC on FX 6 encounter, dropping George early in the first round. Sotiropoulos managed to regain his composure, and he turned things around during the final minute of the first round, taking Pearson to the canvas, transitioning to his back. George stayed glued to Pearson for the remainder of the round, and he probably would have finished the fight if the round didn't come to an end.

Both men had their moments in the second round, but Pearson dropped George again. Ross sent George to the canvas again in the third round, before finishing the Australian off with a hard right.

Robert Whittaker def. Brad Scott (welterweight finals)

Both men came out swinging at UFC on FX 6, putting on an entertaining show reminiscent of the Forrest Griffin vs. Stephan Bonnar TUF Finale. Whittaker got the better of the exchanges in the first round, and he came close to finishing the fight, dropping Scott with a flurry of punches. Scott recomposed himself in the second round, and he controlled the action with his grappling, taking Whittaker down and keeping him there for the majority of the round.

Both men had their moments in the final round, but Whittaker landed the more damaging blows. All three judges gave Whittaker the nod to the delight of the packed Gold Coast Convention Centre.

If you missed this bout, you might want to catch a replay.

Norman Parke def. Colin Fletcher (lightweight finals)

Parke used his superior wrestling to control their UFC on FX 6 encounter, repeatedly tying Fletcher up and dragging him to the canvas. The grappling exchanges between the two were quite entertaining, but Parke did a better job of getting to and maintaining top position.

Parke also held his own against Fletcher in the striking department early in the fight, but the "Freakshow" started winning the exchanges in the third round. However, it wasn't enough to make up for Parke's takedowns and ground control. All three judges scored the fight in favor of Parke, making him the lightweight winner of TUF Smashes.

Hector Lombard def. Rousimar Palhares

Lombard came out swinging at UFC on FX 6, clearly on a mission to establish himself as a top contender in the middleweight division. Hector dropped Palhares early in the fight, and he jumped all over him, landing a few solid shots from guard until the Brazilian tied him up. Hector wisely decided to let Palhares back up, and he dropped the Brazilian shortly after with a left hook, following up with some vicious ground-n-pound, knocking "Toquinho" out cold.

Brilliant performance by Lombard, who secures his first official victory in the Octagon (I scored his debut against Tim Boetsch in his favor).

Undercard:

Chad Mendes def. Yaotzin Meza (KO, round one)

Joey Beltran def. Igor Pokrajac (unanimous decision)

Mike Pierce def. Seth Baczynski (unanimous decision)

Ben Alloway def. Manuel Rodriguez (KO, round one)

Mike Wilkinson def. Brendan Loughnane (unanimous decision)
