UFC on Fuel TV 8 Results: Wanderlei Silva Prevails

Yahoo Contributor Network

COMMENTARY | UFC on Fuel TV 8 wasn't exactly an action-packed event, but Brian Stann and Wanderlei Silva made up for it with their entertaining slugfest.

Here are the results of the UFC on Fuel TV 8 fight card held on March 3, at the Saitama Super Arena in Saitama, Japan.

Wanderlei Silva def. Brian Stann

Both men came out swinging, and it didn't take long for the fight to get bloody. Wanderlei dropped Stann, Stann dropped Wanderlei, and fans at the packed arena roared in appreciation. Silva closed the deal during the final minute of the second round, dropping Brian with a vicious left hook, followed by a salvo of punches which brought the contest to an end at the 4:08 mark.

Mark Hunt def. Stefan Struve

Struve had a tough time keeping Hunt at a distance with his jab, but he did look a lot better when the fight ended up on the ground. Stefan threatened with multiple submissions throughout their UFC on Fuel TV 8 encounter, but Hunt's submission defense looked significantly improved.

Both men didn't have much left after the first round, and a sloppy fight ensued. Hunt finally brought the contest to an end in the final round, making Struve pay for repeatedly dropping his hands with a left hook that sent him to the canvas, prompting referee Herb Dean to call an end to the contest at the 1:44 mark of the third round.

Diego Sanchez def. Takanori Gomi

Gomi had a solid performance at UFC on Fuel TV 8, dominating his encounter against Sanchez from start to finish. He controlled the pace and landed the cleaner strikes, stuffing multiple takedowns, popping right back to his feet the few times his back hit the mat.

Unfortunately for Gomi, the judges gave him a raw deal, awarding Diego with the split decision (all three scored the fight 29-28). I personally scored the fight 30-27 in favor of Gomi.

Yushin Okami def. Hector Lombard

Lombard was a bit hesitant during the first two rounds of their UFC on Fuel TV 8 encounter, allowing Yushin to keep him at bay with his jab, giving up a few takedowns. Hector finally turned up the heat during the final round, aggressively moving forward, hurting Okami a few times. For some reason, Lombard slowed down after he hurt Yushin, and he elected to do some lay-n-pray instead of relentlessly pursuing the finish. Given the fact Lombard was clearly down two rounds, it didn't seem like a smart move.

A judge scored the fight 29-28 Lombard, but the other two got it right, scoring the bout 29-28 in favor of Okami.

Rani Yahya def. Mizuto Hirota

Yahya got off to a good start at UFC on Fuel TV 8, controlling the first two rounds with his grappling. However, Rani looked exhausted in the final round, and Hirota took advantage of the situation, turning the tide of the fight. Unfortunately for Mizuto, it wasn't enough to make up for the first two rounds. All three Octagon-side judges scored the fight 29-28 in favor of Yahya.

Dong Hyun Kim def. Siyar Bahadurzada

Siyar managed to keep Kim off him early in their UFC on Fuel TV 8 encounter, but the Korean eventually put him on his back. Kim quickly advanced to dominant position, staying glued to Bahadurzada for the remainder of the first round.

Kim did more of the same in the second and third rounds, controlling the action with his grappling.

All three judges scored the fight 30-27 in favor of Kim.

Undercard:

Brad Tavares def. Riki Fukuda (unanimous decision)

Takeya Mizugaki def. Bryan Caraway (split decision)

Kazuki Tokudome def. Cristiano Marcello (unanimous decision)

Alex Caceres def. Kyung Ho Kang (split decision)

Hyun Gyu Lim def. Marcelo Guimaraes (TKO, round two)
