It had been nearly two and a half years since the UFC last made a trip to London, but it was well worth the wait for both fans and the promotion to the tune of a sold out show.
UFC on Fuel TV 7: Barão vs. McDonald landed at the Wembley Arena – not to be confused with its much larger neighbor, Wembley Stadium. British fight fans filled the indoor arena, accounting for an attendance of 10,349, according to UFC president Dana White.
The $1.3 million gate was another solid return for the promotion, setting a record for the Wembley Arena.
The UFC is currently in talks to finally land the big TV deal in England that White says is necessary to take the promotion to the next level in the U.K., and if it gets done, plans will call for several tent pole dates each year across the U.K.
Interim UFC bantamweight champion Renan Barão defended his belt in the UFC on Fuel TV 7 main event, submitting Michal McDonald with a head-and-arm choke in the fourth round.
