UFC on Fox 8 Results: 'Mighty Mouse' Prevails

Yahoo Contributor Network

COMMENTARY | Overall, UFC on Fox 8 was an entertaining fight card, even though the highly hyped Rory MacDonald vs. Jake Ellenberger bout didn't live up to expectations.

Here are the results of the UFC on Fox 8 fight card held on July 27 at the Key Arena in Seattle, Wash.:

Demetrious Johnson def. John Moraga

Moraga held his own while standing during the opening minutes of their title tilt, but Johnson wisely mixed things up, putting Moraga on his back. "Mighty Mouse" landed some decent shots on the ground, and he closed out the first round well, clamping down on a guillotine choke as the buzzer went off.

DJ kept Moraga grounded for a vast majority of the second, third, and fourth rounds of their UFC on Fox 8 bout, but Moraga almost turned things around late in round four, hurting Johnson with a perfectly placed right hook that busted up the champion's nose.

Demetrious didn't seem to be bothered by the fact blood was dripping out of his nose during the fifth round, putting Moraga on his back, threatening with a kimura before finally transitioning to an armbar, which forced referee Herb Dean to stop the contest at the 3:43 mark.

Rory MacDonald def. Jake Ellenberger

Both men were tentative at UFC on Fox 8, with Ellenberger barely engaging while Rory was content to jab at his opponent all night. Rory controlled the first two rounds with his footwork and jab, but Ellenberger managed to turn things around a bit during the third round, finally increasing his output and landing some shots, eventually putting Rory on his back. Unfortunately for Jake, it's was too little too late, as the judges scored the bout 30-27, 29-28, and 30-27, all in favor of MacDonald.

Robbie Lawler def. Bobby Voelker

Lawler came out swinging at UFC on Fox 8, hurting Voelker early and often during their encounter. By the end of the first round, Voelker's face was a bloody mess, and Robbie never gave him a chance to recover, finishing him off with a brutal kick to the face 24 seconds into round two.

Liz Carmouche def. Jessica Andrade

Carmouche went right to work at UFC on Fox 8, taking Andrade down early in the contest. However, Jessica proved to be equally savvy on the mat, fighting her way back to her feet, viciously slamming Liz to the ground shortly after. Andrade closed out the first round threatening with a guillotine choke.

"Girl-Rilla" went right back to her wrestling during the second round, putting Andrade on her back during the opening moments once again. She unloaded a vicious barrage of punches and elbows, threatened with a few submissions, before finally putting Andrade away with her merciless ground-n-pound.

Danny Castillo def. Tim Means (unanimous decision)
