COMMENTARY | Demetrious Johnson will defend the Ultimate Fighting Championship's flyweight title for the first time when he squares up against John Dodson at "UFC on Fox 6." The event is set for Jan. 26, at the United Center, in Chicago, Ill.
Here are my predictions for the entire UFC on Fox 6 fight card:
Demetrious Johnson vs. John DodsonAn excellent matchup featuring two of the fastest fighters in the UFC, expect fireworks when these two meet inside the Octagon. Both are comfortable on the ground, but a majority of their bout will probably be spent standing up.
Dodson has been on a roll ever since his days on the 14th season of "The Ultimate Fighter," and he remains undefeated inside the Octagon. However, he's never really faced anyone like Johnson in the past.
DJ has put together an impressive MMA resume over the years, with wins against guys like Miguel Torres, Ian McCall, and Joseph Benavidez. He's clearly had a lot more experience against top level competition, and that will probably be the difference maker when he squares up against Dodson at UFC on Fox 6.
Prediction: Johnson wins via decision.
Quinton Jackson vs. Glover TeixeiraThe UFC certainly didn't show "Rampage" any love by matching up against a tough opponent like Teixeira. Given the harsh things Jackson has said about the promotion since his UFC 144 loss to Ryan Bader, it'll probably be the last time we see Quinton inside the Octagon, as it's the last fight on his current contract.
Teixeira has a lot of hype going into their UFC on Fox 6 encounter, but I personally wasn't that impressed with his last performance against Fabio Maldonado. I wasn't impressed with Jackson last performance against Bader either, but I do think he's good enough to beat Teixeira at UFC on Fox 6 if he brings his A-game.
Prediction: Jackson wins via TKO.
Anthony Pettis vs. Donald CerroneThe last man to defeat current lightweight champion, Benson Henderson, Pettis will try to move a step closer to the 155 pound strap when he faces Cerrone at UFC on Fox 6. Both men are well-rounded, but Pettis seems to be a bit better standing up and on the ground. He should be fine regardless of where the fight takes place, and I expect him to emerge victorious.
Prediction: Pettis wins via decision.
Erik Koch vs. Ricardo LamasKoch was set to face Jose Aldo last October, but an injury forced him out of the bout. Unfortunately for Koch, Frankie Edgar decided to drop down to the featherweight division, so "The Answer" will now get the next shot at Aldo.
Obviously, Erik will probably get a crack at the featherweight title if he emerges victorious against Ricardo, but it won't be an easy fight. Lamas robbed Hatsu Hioki of the opportunity to fight for the title by defeating him at "UFC on FX 4," which should give him a lot of confidence heading into his bout against Koch. It should be a competitive fight, but I think Koch will eventually catch Lamas with a big punch and put him away.
Prediction: Koch wins via TKO.
Matt Wiman defeats TJ Grant
Clay Guida defeats Hatsu Hioki
Ryan Bader defeats Vladimir Matyushenko
Mike Russow defeats Shawn Jordan
Pascal Krauss defeats Mike Stumpf
Rafael Natal defeats Sean Spencer
Simeon Thoresen defeats David Mitchell
