UFC Fight Night 57 Results: Chico Camus Upsets Brad Pickett in Split Decision
Following a loss to Chris Holdsworth at UFC 173 in May, Chico Camus (15-5) made the decision to drop down to the flyweight division. He made his 125-pound debut on Saturday at UFC Fight Night 57 in Austin, Texas against 11-ranked Brad Pickett (24-10)
Camus controlled the striking in the opening round landing a flying knee and counter left hooks. Pickett secured a takedown and pounded away with elbows. He maintained top position for nearly two minutes, but Camus worked his way back to his feet and continued to find a home for his left hand.
Camus began landing a lead uppercut in the second frame. He switched stances and attacked from different angles. Picked secured a double leg takedown in the round, but Camus quickly got back to his feet. Late in the round, Pickett began to find his range and landed counter right hands.
Camus stuffed Pickett’s early takedown attempt in the final round. Pickett was unable to get the fight to the ground. He pressed forward as Camus moved on the outside. The two slugged it out in the closing seconds.
After the fight, both fighters raised their hands in victory. It was a competitive fight with each fighter having moments, but ultimately it was the striking of Camus that was the difference. The judges scored the fight for the 29-year-old by split decision.
Two judges scored Camus the winner with a score of 29-28 while the third judges scored Pickett winning all three rounds. The loss was his second in a row and will likely bounce Pickett from the UFC's flyweight rankings. For Camus, he's now 1-0 as a flyweight.
