UFC Fight Night 27 Fighter Bonuses: Brandon Thatch Scores KO of the Night in Debut Performance

UFC Fight Night 27: Condit vs. Kampmann 2 took place on Wednesday night at Bankers Life Arena in Indianapolis. There were high expectations in the air for the rematch between former UFC interim welterweight champion Carlos Condit and fellow contender Martin Kampmann, and they did not disappoint.

Kampmann won a split decision in the first match-up between the two, but Condit would leave no doubts this time, taking Kampann out in the fourth round of their scheduled five-round bout.

Kampmann came out of the gate showing his cards, immediately and constantly taking Condit to the mat. Condit, however, kept returning the fight to the feet, where he had the striking advantage.

Condit’s advantage only increased as the fight wore on and he picked Kampmann apart. The performance of both fighters, however, earned the two Fight of the Night honors and each an additional $50,000 bonus.

The Knockout of the Night honors went to the debuting Denver welterweight, and part-time Georges St-Pierre training partner, Brandon Thatch, who made quick work of Justin Edwards.

Thatch established his high-paced striking attack from the opening bell, eventually dropping Edwards with several knees, and following up with a few finishing punches before the fight was halted at the 1:23 mark of the first frame.

Submission of the Night was another easy choice as another UFC newbie, Zak Cummings, applied a D’arce Choke in the waning moments of the first round of his fight with Aussie Ben Alloway.

Each of the award winners scored a $50,000 bonus for his efforts.
