UFC 193: Rousey vs. Holm Sets Attendance Record

UFC 193: Rousey vs. Holm was expected to set the organization’s attendance record, and it did just that.

A total of 56,214 spectators filled Etihad Stadium in Melbourne, Australia, to witnessed Holly Holm capture the women’s bantamweight title by knocking out Ronda Rousey in the fight card’s main event.

UFC 129 previously held the attendance record with 55,724 in attendance at Toronto’s Roger’s Centre in April 2011. Georges St-Pierre defended his welterweight title against Jake Shields in the featured fight that night.

UFC 193 brought in $9.53 million AUS in gate receipts, which translates to roughly $6.8 million US.

The historic event was the first time in the Las Vegas-based fight promotion’s history that two women’s fights headlined a pay-per-view event. Strawweight champion Joanna Jędrzejczyk defended her title for the second time by defeating Valerie Letourneau by unanimous decision in the co-main event bout.

Aside from attendance, UFC president Dana White said that “we broke a lot of records” with UFC 193, saying “the pay-per-views are trending really crazy… and we broke the all time gate record here, at the stadium.”
