UFC 190 Results: Claudia Gadelha Snaps Jessica Aguilar’s Winning Streak

Claudia Gadelha Says She's Ready to Rematch Joanna Jedrzejczyk Whenever Champ is Healed

Before signing with the Ultimate Fighting Championship in June, Jessica Aguilar was considered by some as the top women’s strawweight in the world. She vacated her World Series of Fighting strawwegiht title to sign with the UFC to prove where she stood among the top 115-pound female fighters.

She made her promotional debut on the UFC 190: Rousey vs. Correia main card in Rio de Janeiro on Saturday against top ranked contender Claudia Gadelha and quickly found out that she has work to do.

Gadelha established her jab early and battered Aguilar with left hooks. By the end of the opening round, Aguilar was bleeding from the nose and losing the fight.

Gadelha bested Aguilar in every aspect. She won the striking exchanges and scored on all four of her takedown attempts. But Aguilar remained in the pocket and fired back.

Aguilar had her most successful round in the third. She targeted Gadelha’s lead leg with kicks and picked up her striking output. While it was her best round, she still lost it on all three judges’ scorecards.

After fifteen minutes of fighting, Gadelha was unanimously declared the winner and called for a title fight.

“Dana White, make my title shot happen. I am the best strawweight in the world, and I’m going to prove that. I’m here to prove that. I’m going to get better and better, and I’m here to kick (expletive),” said the 26-year-old Brazilian.

With the win, Gadelha rebounded from her first career loss and snapped Aguilar’s ten-fight winning streak. She was defeated by now-champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk in December by split decision, although she believes that she won the fight. Now she wants a rematch.

“This fight has to happen. Joanna, I hope you’re training hard because I am also,” she said. “I’ll be here ready for you whenever you want.”
