UFC 178 Medical Suspensions: Cat Zingano Could be Sidelined Until March

Cat Zingano returned to the Octagon after nearly a year and a half on the sidelines. She overcame a difficult first round to stop Amanda Nunes via TKO early in the third round, returning her standing as the UFC’s No. 1 bantamweight contender.

After the fight, UFC president Dana White declared the Zingano is next up for Ronda Rousey, and the two are expected to tangle in the UFC 182 co-main event on Jan. 3 in Las Vegas.

Although getting a doctor’s clearance for a medical concern after a tough fight is generally a formality, Zingano hit a snag on Monday when the Nevada Athletic Commission issued the UFC 178 medical suspensions.

Zingano is required to get clearance for an issue concerning her upper back or she could be sidelined until March 15 of next year, which would certainly put a damper on her title shot.

Like Zingano, several other UFC 178 fighters have issues that could sideline them until next March.

The NAC on Monday released the UFC 178: Johnson vs. Cariaso medical suspensions to MMAWeekly.com. UFC 178 took place on Saturday, Sept. 27, at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
