For Glover Teixeira, UFC Light Heavyweight Title Shot on the Line Against Ryan Bader

UFC 160 was announced just one week ago, but the fight card is filling up fast.

The latest addition is a light heavyweight contest between two 205-pounders that are trying to bust into the Top 5, Glover Teixeira and Ryan Bader.

UFC officials announced the bout on Tuesday evening.

It took 33-year-old Teixeira (20-2) the better part of his professional career to make his way into the Octagon, but he hasn’t disappointed since arriving.

Teixeira has won 18 consecutive bouts, including his first three in the Octagon. Those three victories in the UFC have marked a steady rise in competition, from Kyle Kingsbury to Fabio Maldonado to Quinton “Rampage” Jackson.

A victory over Bader would put Teixeira in the upper echelon of the division, likely landing him a fight against a Top 5 fighter, and launching his name into title talk.

Bader (15-3) made his way to the Octagon via The Ultimate Fighter franchise, winning Season 8.

He won his first few bouts in the UFC, rocketing to a 12-0 start to his professional career before now-champion Jon Jones handed him his first setback, which was followed up by a surprising loss to UFC Hall of Famer Tito Ortiz.

Bader has since won three of his last four bouts, stumbling only against former UFC champion Lyoto Machida.

Coming off of an impressive first-round submission of veteran Vladimir Matyushenko, a fight that most pundits thought would be a much more difficult affair, Bader can also put his name right back “in the mix” with a win over the skyrocketing Teixeira.

Two heavyweight bouts sit at the top of the UFC 160 fight card planned for May 25 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez puts his belt on the line in a rematch with Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva, while Junior dos Santos and Alistair Overeem square off in a grudge match in the co-main event.
