UFC 158 St-Pierre vs. Diaz Fighter Bonuses: Jake Ellenberger Takes Knockout of the Night
T he Ultimate Fighting Championship awarded $50,000 performance bonuses to three UFC 158: St-Pierre vs. Diaz fighters following the event at the Bell Centre in Montreal on Saturday night.
The Fight of the Night bonus went to the co-main event fighters Carlos Condit and Johny Hendricks. The two top welterweight contenders fought to a decision in an action-packed war. Hendricks’ wrestling was the difference in what was a Fight of the Year candidate.
Jake Ellenberger’s first-round knockout of Nate Marquardt earned him the Knockout of the Night award. Ellenberger, known for his knockout punching power, landed a combination along the cage the knocked Marquardt down. As Marquardt struggled to grab a leg, Ellenberger delivered a right hand that rendered him unconscious.
There was no Submission of the Night bonus for UFC 158 because there wasn’t a submission finish in the 12 fights on the card.
Welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre retained his title in the main event with a unanimous decision win over Nick Diaz. St-Pierre used his jab and wrestling ability to nullify Diaz's offense. All three scorecards read 50-47 for St-Pierre.
A total of $150,000 was awarded in bonus money following UFC 158.
