The two meet in the UFC 155 main event at the MGM Grand Garden Arena on Saturday night in Las Vegas.
Being heavyweights, there was little issue for either dos Santos or Velasquez when they stepped on the scale. The champ, dos Santos, weighed in at 239 pounds, while Velasquez was just one pound heavier at 240 pounds.
Both men put a lot of stock in being the UFC heavyweight champion.
“This is everything to me. I want to be No.1. I want to fight the best, so I gotta take care of business tomorrow,” said Velasquez, the man that wants to take the belt back from the man that took it from him.
“It means everything to me,” said dos Santos, just as emphatically. “Cain Velasquez for sure a great opponent, but I know, I know you guys like knockouts, so one more is coming for you.”
The co-main event features two lightweights trying to stave off the journeyman moniker to make a run at the title currently wrapped around Benson Henderson’s waist.
In a fight that has excitement scribbled all over it, neither Jim Miller nor Joe Lauzon had trouble making weight, each stepping on the scale at 156 pounds.
Two of the UFC’s top middleweight contenders were supposed to have squared off on Saturday, but with Chris Weidman out with an injury, Tim Boetsch instead squares off with Costa Philippou.
