UFC 146 Predictions: Fan Reaction

Yahoo Contributor Network

The Ultimate Fighting Championship's heavyweight champion, Junior dos Santos, will defend his belt for the first time when he faces Frank Mir at UFC 146. The heavyweight showdown is scheduled for May 26, at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, NV. Here are my predictions for the entire UFC 146 fight card:

Junior dos Santos versus Frank Mir

Dos Santos made quick work of Cain Velasquez in his last fight, but he'll be in for a tougher test when he faces Mir at UFC 146. Dos Santos is arguably the best boxer in the UFC's heavyweight division. But he'll be going against the best submission specialist in the division. If dos Santos is able to keep the fight standing, he should eventually catch Mir and put him away. Dos Santos wins via TKO.

Cain Velasquez versus Antonio Silva

Coming off the first loss of his pro MMA career, Velasquez will be motivated to make a strong statement, but he might run into some problems against Silva - who is also coming off a brutal knockout loss. Silva will have a significant size advantage, and that might be his key to victory if he's able to get the fight to the ground. Silva wins by decision.

Roy Nelson versus Dave Herman

Nelson received a serious beating in his last fight against Fabricio Werdum, but he should be able to get back on track against Herman at UFC 146. Herman is the more versatile striker, but his ground game is rather rudimentary. His chances of keeping the fight standing are slim to none, and I just can't see him being victorious against "Big Country." Nelson wins via TKO.

Stipe Miocic versus Shane del Rosario

Someone's "0" will go when these two meet inside the Octagon at UFC 146. Both men have impressive resumes, but I'm a little more impressed with Rosario's accomplishments. With 10 of Rosario's 11 wins coming via first round stoppages - including a win against Lavar Johnson, I expect him to do big things in the UFC, and it starts with a victory against Miocic. Rosario wins via KO.

Mark Hunt versus Stefan Struve

This is a tough fight to call. Struve will have a significant reach advantage when these two meet at UFC 146, but he might find himself in serious trouble if he decides to stand with Hunt. Struve's chin has been suspect in the past, and Hunt has already demonstrated his knockout power. However, Hunt is prone to submissions, which happen to be Struve's favorite method of ending fights, with 15 of his 23 wins coming via submission. It should be an entertaining fight, but I expect Hunt's fists to find Struve's chin before the fight hits the ground. Hunt wins by KO.
