LOS ANGELES (AP) -- UCLA guard Lauren Holiday is ending her college basketball career after just 12 games over two seasons because of repeated head injuries.

The younger sister of former Bruins star and NBA player Jrue Holiday averaged 3.3 points, 3.8 rebounds and 1.3 assists. Holiday, a redshirt freshman, will remain with the team as an undergraduate assistant and continue pursuing a sociology degree.

Coach Cori Close made the announcement on Tuesday.

Holiday, from nearby Calabasas, began her career at UCLA in 2012-13, when the first of four head injuries ended her first season after she played in just three games. Last season, Holiday sustained three other head injuries and a broken nose.

Holiday says not being able to play basketball is going to be ''tremendously hard'' because it's what she's done most of her life.
