UCLA coach Jim Mora was given a one-year contract extension at UCLA on Friday after one season at the Pac-12 school.

Mora's new deal with the Bruins now lasts through the 2017 season. No other contract details were provided in the school's press release.

The former NFL coach led UCLA to a 9-5 record and the Pac-12 South title, their best season since 1998 when they won 10 games.

"What Jim Mora has accomplished in just one season as our head coach is remarkable," UCLA athletic director Dan Guerrero said in a statement. "The wins, the Pac-12 South Championship, and the bowl berth were accompanied by an equally impressive performance by the team in the classroom and in the community."

The extension came less than a week after the NFL San Diego Chargers reportedly tried to talk to Mora about their head coaching position.

"I believe UCLA will win championships," Mora said in a statement, "The 2012 team established a foundation which will launch us forward. Our staff, our returning players, our administration, and the entire Bruin community are pulling together in an effort to win championships."

UCLA also announced the school in the preliminary stages of building an on-campus football training facility.
