Buzzing on Yahoo Sports:

U.S. roster includes Chandler but not Donovan

The SportsXchange

Landon Donovan is out, and Timothy Chandler is in.

Their absence and inclusion was the most notable news that emerged when U.S. men's coach Jurgen Klinsmann announced his squad for Wednesday's game at Honduras.

The contest at San Pedro Sula kicks off the final round of World Cup qualifying for the North American, Central American and Caribbean region (CONCACAF).

Donovan, the U.S. team's all-time leading scorer and the longtime face of the squad, is still deciding his playing future. He hasn't said whether he will return to the Los Angeles Galaxy, which he led to the past two MLS Cup championships, or the national team.

Chandler is a German-American defender who has yet to play for the U.S. team in a competitive match. Should he play Wednesday, he'd be officially tied to the U.S. for international competition, preventing him from deciding to play for Germany.

Chandler, who plays for Nuremberg in Germany's top-flight Bundesliga, is viewed as a potential starting right back with U.S. mainstay Steve Cherundolo unavailable due to a knee injury.

The Honduras game begins a 10-game qualifying round among six CONCACAF teams. The top three finishers advance to the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, while the fourth-place finisher faces the Oceania region champion in a two-leg playoff for another berth.

The U.S. roster for Wednesday's game:

Goalkeepers: Brad Guzan (Aston Villa), Tim Howard (Everton), Sean Johnson (Chicago Fire).

Defenders: Matt Besler (Sporting Kansas City), Carlos Bocanegra (Racing Santander), Geoff Cameron (Stoke City), Edgar Castillo (Club Tijuana), Timmy Chandler (Nuremberg), Brad Evans (Seattle Sounders), Omar Gonzalez (Los Angeles Galaxy), Fabian Johnson (Hoffenheim), Michael Parkhurst (Augsburg).

Midfielders: Michael Bradley (Roma), Brad Davis (Houston Dynamo), Maurice Edu (Bursaspor), Jermaine Jones (Schalke 04), Sacha Kljestan (Anderlecht), Jose Torres (Tigres), Danny Williams (Hoffenheim), Graham Zusi (Sporting Kansas City).

Forwards: Jozy Altidore (AZ Alkmaar), Clint Dempsey (Tottenham Hotspur), Herculez Gomez (Santos), Eddie Johnson (Seattle Sounders).
