The Olympic tennis results are all in for London 2012, and American players took home a fair number of the medals awarded this year. Aside from the glaring exception of men's singles, Americans medaled in each of the other events. Here is the final medal count for American players from the All-England Club.
Serena Williams, women's singles - Serena came into London with two gold medals already in her trophy case, but those were both won in doubles. This year she added a gold in singles, thoroughly dominating the field. She lost just 17 games in her six matches on the way to adding a gold medal to her already Hall of Fame-worthy resume. Serena joined her sister Venus (Sydney, 2000), Jennifer Capriati (Barcelona, 1992) and Lindsay Davenport (Atlanta, 1996) as U.S. women with gold medals in singles.
Bob Bryan/Mike Bryan, men's doubles - The Bryan brothers have been a top doubles team for years now, but this is the first gold medal for the pair. They earned a bronze in Beijing in 2008. Like Serena in singles, the Bryans now have a Golden Slam in doubles on their resumes - all four Grand Slams and an Olympic gold medal. The Bryans join Ken Flach and Robert Seguso (Seoul, 1988) as gold medal winners in doubles since the Olympics brought back tennis n 1988.
Serena Williams/Venus Williams, women's doubles - The Williams sisters have owned the Olympic doubles tournament. They now have three gold medals in doubles (Sydney, Beijing, London). The other U.S. team in women's doubles, the top-seeded team of Huber and Raymond, lost in the bronze medal match.
Lisa Raymond/Mike Bryan, mixed doubles - Mixed doubles made its Olympic debut this year in London. Raymond and Bryan, playing as the #3 seed, lost in the semis but bounced back to win the bronze medal match against the German team of Sabine Lisicki and Christopher Kas.
