Tyreke Evans came off the bench and posted his 1st double-double this season, scoring 19 points and registering 10 rebounds, to help the New Orleans Hornets pull out a close one against the Cleveland Cavaliers, 104-100. New Orleans (6-6) is now on a 3-game winning streak.
Evans shot 7-16 from the field. Other top performers for New Orleans were Anthony Davis with 17 points and 13 rebounds, Jrue Holiday with 15 points and 11 assists, and Jason Smith with 11 points and 6 rebounds. On 9-22 shooting (1-6 on 3-point attempts), in addition to going 3-5 from the free throw line, Kyrie Irving scored 22 points for Cleveland in the loss. Tristan Thompson added 12 points and 8 rebounds.
The Cavaliers dished out 15 assists versus 19 turnovers, a ratio of just 0.79. They are 2-4 on the season when committing more errors than assists in a game. The Hornets, on the other hand, are undefeated (3-0) when forcing opponents beneath 1.00 in assist-to-turnover ratio.
Cleveland (4-9) has now dropped consecutive games after losing to Washington on Wednesday.
Coming up, the Hornets will play the San Antonio Spurs (11-1) on Monday. The Cavaliers also match up with the Spurs in their next game as well, taking place on Saturday.
