The San Diego Chargers are desperate for a healthy offensive line in 2016 and already the team is struggling with injuries as a pair of lineman will be heading to the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list.

According to Michael Gehlken of the San Diego Union-Tribune, center Chris Watt will be starting trainig camp on the PUP list.

Along with Watt, center Trevor Robinson will also be beginning the year on the PUP list according to ESPN’s Adam Caplan. Caplan reported this via his twitter account.

Both Watt and Robinson are going to be battling for a position along the interior of the offensive line. Neither would be the starters day one but they will be fighting to become important depth along the line.

Watt recently had knee surgery and is still recovering from it. While Robinson has had complications following shoulder surgery. Both injuries will cause the Charger to be extremely thin along the interior of the offensive line to open camp.

With the injuries, the battle for backup offensive line spots is now very intriguing. Watt was probably going to be given a spot to be the primary backup guard but his injury gives players like Donavon Clark and Kenny Wiggins chances to show what they can do.

Robinson on the other hand was pretty bad in 2015 and his chances of making this team are now very slim. With San Diego adding Matt Slauson in free agency and drafting Max Tuerk in the third round, Robinson would have been the third center on the depth chart. Still, he has some versatility and shouldn’t be completely ruled out to make this team.

Hopefully Watt and Robinson and Watt can return to the field quickly and create even more competition along the offensive line. The team is in need of depth and Watt and Robinson can certainly fit that role.
