Much like we saw in the most recent US election, the Buffalo Bills are quickly becoming the Hillary Clinton of the 2016 NFL playoff race. Sitting at 4-2 just three weeks ago, the Bills were on a four-game winning streak and looked like a lock to not only contend for a Wild Card spot in the playoffs but also challenge New England for the AFC East crown.

However, from the moment the team dropped it’s contest against the Miami Dolphins, things began trending downward for the Bills. LeSean McCoy was battling injury, the receiving core was desolate and the schedule was about to hit it’s toughest point for the team. Like Clinton on election night, the Bills went from favorite to underdog just like that.

Losses against the rival Patriots one week after the defeat in Miami compounded many of the team’s issues. The most recent loss in Seattle, likely sealed there fate. The playoff race is all but over for the Buffalo Bills. The streak of having not made the playoffs since the turn of the century will likely live on for at least one more season.

However, despite all the gloom and doom, there are two players providing fans with something to cheer for and watch in the coming weeks. Possibly the most shocking starters in the linebacking core earlier this season, both Zach Brown and Lorenzo Alexander have set the NFL alight with their tremendous play so far this season.

With injuries and suspensions hitting the linebacking core hard during the preseason, both Alexander and Brown were forced into action. Since that moment in time, both have become common names for Bills and NFL fans alike. The rise for both can only be described as stunning considering both player’s past.

Lorenzo Alexander currently sits atop the NFL’s sack list with the 10 that he has obtained this season. For the 33-year old linebacker, those 10 sacks are more than he had ever accomplished in his nine prior seasons… combined. Though only up by half a sack on Von Miller, the opportunity is there for Alexander to lead the league in sacks this season.

For Zach Brown, his year may be even more impressive as he currently leads the NFL in total tackles. With the bye week this week for the Buffalo Bills, Brown is likely to drop from that perch. However, given his career season thus far, one can only assume that Brown will be near the top of the tackle list for the remainder of the 2016 campaign.
