Twins activate Plouffe from DL

Twins third baseman Trevor Plouffe, who has been out since he injured his thumb on July 20, was activated from the 15-day disabled list on Monday, the team announced.

To make room, the team sent second baseman Tsuyoshi Nishioka to Triple-A Rochester.

Plouffe bruised his thumb when he was jammed by a pitch against the Royals. He missed 21 games. In his minor-league rehab assignment with Triple-A Rochester over the weekend, he went 0-for-8 with a walk in two games.

With the Twins this season, Plouffe is hitting .259 with 19 homers in 74 games.
