The threat of Hurricane Isaac notwithstanding, Tulane's season-opener against Rutgers Saturday night at the New Orleans Mercedes-Benz Superdome will go take place as scheduled.
A decision to play was made Thursday morning, after the Superdome suffered only superficial damage from the storm. Superdome chief Doug Thornton told ESPN.com that the stadium never lost power and the roof never leaked.
Tulane officials delayed a final decision to play until Thursday, in order to evaluate the condition of the community and confirm that the airport would be able to receive Rutgers' charter flight on Friday.
Not all teams avoided cancellations. Louisiana Tech's Thursday night opener against Texas A&M in Shreveport, La., was postponed until Oct. 13, and Nicholls State's Saturday game at Oregon State was postponed because of the Colonels' travel situation.
