Trey Hopkins Wright is a rookie seventh-round pick out of LSU, Hopkins is an undrafted free agent out of Texas.
The Bengals may have just suffered their first season-ending injury of the preseason to a player who was projected into the 2-deep depth chart.
Offensive guard Trey Hopkins injured his right shin in the 4th quarter of Sunday's preseason game vs. the Arizona Cardinals. It was bad enough that he couldn't put any weight on it, and had to be carted off the field.
It took just two more plays for the Bengals to lose another player. This time, it was receiver James Wright. He appeared to have caught a touchdown in the back of the end zone, but was hit hard by Cardinals safety Curtis Taylor, causing the ball to be dislodged while Wright's head hit the ground hard.
He too had to be carted back to the locker room, where he's likely undergoing tests on his head and neck in addition to the NFL concussion protocol.
Wright is a rookie seventh-round pick out of LSU. Despite never playing as anything more than a 4th receiver, Wright has impressed in camp to the point he was likely going to not only be on the 53-man roster, but potentially be active for several games this year.
Hopkins is an undrafted free agent out of Texas. Both players were very likely to make the final 53-man roster. With Mike Pollak battling a knee injury and Clint Boling being out while rehabbing from ACL surgery, Hopkins has been getting a lot of run with the first-team offense in OTAs and training camp. He played 50 games at Texas, with 42 starts (28 at left guard, 14 at right tackle). He was an All-Big 12 selection twice and earned first-team honors in 2012.
