Buzzing on Yahoo Sports:

Trading for Jimmer Fredette Makes Sense for Utah Jazz

Yahoo Contributor Network

COMMENTARY | With Trey Burke potentially out until Christmas, the Utah Jazz are looking awfully thin at point guard.

Like John-Lucas-III-and-Lester-Hudson thin.

Yeah, I know. The Jazz are in the "Riggin' for Wiggins" race and therefore don't mind going with Lucas III and Hudson. But what about the development of Alec Burks, Gordon Hayward, Derrick Favors and Enes Kanter? Shouldn't they mind that?

Can we really expect those guys to move toward their full potential with Lucas III, who's never averaged more than 15 minutes per game in five NBA seasons, running the show?

I say no. He's undersized (5 feet 11 inches), a below average playmaker (1.5 APG) and poor shooter (39.3 FG%).

Don't get me wrong -- I'm not saying Lucas III can't be good for the Jazz. What I'm saying is, he's not a good replacement for Burke.

Neither is Jamaal Tinsley, whom the team is thinking about bringing back.

But Jimmer Fredette may be one.

Think about it: The former BYU star would not only be a box office draw (something the Jazz will need as they tank), but also a 3-point threat who could spread the floor for Favors and Kanter.

In addition, Fredette could help the Jazz with a couple things they've been struggling with through five preseason games: shooting (they're a woeful 160-for-407, or 39.3 percent, from the floor) and scoring (they're averaging just 87.0 points per game).

Last year, Fredette shot 42.1 percent from the field, including 41.7 from 3-point land, while averaging 18.4 points per 36 minutes.

Plus, in two preseason games this year, the third-year pro has been red-hot, averaging 15 points per contest while connecting on 60 percent of his attempts from the field. On Oct. 17, he torched the Phoenix Suns for 23 points on 9-of-15 shooting, including 5 of 7 from downtown.

It shouldn't be too difficult to talk the Sacramento Kings into a trade, considering they also have Greivis Vasquez and Isaiah Thomas. And, when Burke does return, Jimmer can back him up and/or spend some time at the two, something he's done a lot of as a King.

Last summer, I wrote that the Jazz should rescue Fredette. Perhaps Fredette could rescue the Jazz right now.
