Towson forward Jerrelle Benimon had 20 of his 25 points in the second half on Saturday as the Tigers beat Drexel, 75-73, in a Colonial Athletic Association game at the SECU Arena in Towson, Md. Drexel guard Frantz Massenat had 18 points and forward Tavon Allen had 17 for the Dragons. Towson (14-8, 5-2 in the CAA) also got 16 points from guard Marcus Damas. Drexel fell to 11-10, 3-5. Chris Fouch of Drexel made a 3-pointer with 1:34 left to cut the lead to 67-64. A dunk by Benimon with 1:29 left made it 69-64 and he scored again on a drive to the basket with 42.1 seconds left to make it 71-67. Two free throws by Marcus Damas made it 73-68 with 19.2 seconds left and Towson held on for the win even though Benimon had only five points in the first half. Towson guard Mike Burwell had a field goal and free throw to give the Tigers a 17-10 lead midway through the first half. Drexel led, 26-24, before Towson came back to lead 33-30 at halftime. The game was a matchup of the two pre-season favorites in the CAA, as Towson was picked to win the league by coaches and media personnel while Drexel was pegged for second. The Tigers won at Drexel on Jan. 18 by a score of 80-68. Benimon entered the game with 10 double-doubles in his last 11 games. He ranks among the CAA leaders in scoring, rebounding, field goal percentage, assists and blocked shots. The Tigers have won 14 of their last 15 home games. Drexel was coming off a 77-74 victory at Hofstra on Wednesday. The Dragons host North Carolina-Wilmington on Monday and Towson hosts James Madison on Tuesday.
