Tour Report: A new trend needed for Blixt to win

In order for PGA TOUR rookie Jonas Blixt to break through for his maiden victory, he’ll have to tread some new ground in the scoring department. In his 17-event TOUR career, Blixt hasn’t posted more than two consecutive rounds in the 60s. On a course where birdies come in bunches, Blixt will need to keep his foot on the gas to avoid getting lapped by the field this weekend.

Of the competitors starting today inside the top 5, Blixt does have the best third- and fourth-round scoring averages this season. His 69.0 third-round scoring average is more than one-shot better than anyone else inside the top 5 including Brendon de Jonge, who starts the day tied with Blixt for the lead at 14 under.

Tim Herron (-11, T4) has the second-best third-round scoring average among those in the top 5 at 70.07.

Blixt’s 71.00 Sunday scoring average is also best among those inside the current top 5. Just 0.35 shots behind is Brendon de Jonge at 71.35.

Ryan Moore has the highest third- and fourth-round scoring averages among those inside the top five in 2012.
