BETHESDA, Md. — Tiger Woods won the AT&T National the last time it was played at Congressional, and he’s in good shape to make another run at the title this year.
Woods opened the day just five shots off the lead and just moved a shot closer after a birdie on the first hole, where he rolled in a 7-foot putt.
Very little applause followed, however, with no fans permitted on the course because of dangerous conditions following an overnight storm that left trees and debris scattered throughout the golf course.
Leader Hunter Mahan, who finished second to Woods in 2009, will tee off in about 15 minutes.
