Tour Report: Separation at the top

The final group is approaching the turn at Hamilton G&CC, where there’s some separation at the top of the leaderboard.

Scott Piercy and William McGirt have traded spots at the top and are tied again at 14 under. Robert Garrigus, who briefly shared the lead at one point, is a shot back.

Chris Kirk and Josh Teater are another stroke back at 12 under.

Then there’s a large contingent of players at 9 under, including J.B. Holmes, Bud Cauley, Vijay Singh, Bo Van Pelt and Tim Clark.

Van Pelt, by the way, has a chance to earn a spot in next week’s World Golf Championships-Bridgestone Invitational.

What can we expect on the back nine? Fewer birdies. Each of the first two days, the back nine played more difficult than the front nine — by nearly a full stroke on Thursday and nearly a half-stroke on Friday.
