Dozens of trees were downed by overnight storms at Congressional.
AT&T NATIONAL: Updated tee times for the third round
Strong storms made their way through the East Coast overnight, and one of the victims was Congressional.
Players were tweeting that trees and tents were down on the property, and cleanup was expected to take some time Saturday. The third round will begin at 1 p.m. ET, with threesomes heading off the first and the 10th tees.
As daylight appeared at Congressional, it was evident the amount of damage that appeared: Tents were down, trees down, and the power was out on the property. The damage was such that the tournament announced early Saturday that the course was closed to all fans and volunteers in the interest of safety.
Winds around 70 to 80 mph were reported in the vicinity. Trees were down to roads leading to the course as well, and cell phone service has been interrupted for some. The storms knocked out power to over 3 million people alone along the storm’s path. The storm produced about three-tenths of an inch of rain.
All Saturday tickets will being honored for the final round on Sunday.
TV info: Golf Channel will be on as scheduled at 1 p.m. with early coverage, followed by CBS at 3 p.m. ET.
