Tour Report: Round 2 news, numbers

· Sergio Garcia won the Wyndham Championship last week and is tied for the lead through two rounds at The Barclays. This year on the PGA TOUR, two players have held at least a share of the second-round lead the week after winning: Jason Dufner at the Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial (after winning at the HP Byron Nelson Championship) and Phil Mickelson at the Northern Trust Open (after winning at the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am). In the four previous years, only one player accomplished this feat: Tiger Woods at the 2009 PGA Championship the week after winning at the World Golf Championships-Bridgestone Invitational.

· Speaking of Woods, he birdied the par-3 14th hole at The Barclays in both the first and second rounds. It’s the third time in the last five years that Woods had birdied a par 3 in each of the first two rounds in a TOUR event. The others were at the 2011 Masters Tournament (No. 6) and the 2010 BMW Championship (No. 14).

· Garcia finds himself at the top of the leaderboard because of his sand saves, getting up and down from the bunkers five out of six times in the first two rounds at The Barclays. That ties Garcia’s third-highest sand-save percentage through two rounds of an event on TOUR.

· Nick Watney, who made four putts of at least 25 feet through two rounds at The Barclays, is tied for the lead with Garcia. It’s the second time in that Watney has made four or more putts of that length through two rounds. The first was at the 2005 Buick Open.
