Tour Report: Round 2 news, numbers

From Elias Sports Bureau

· Rory McIlroy launched drives of 365 yards in the opening round and 346 yards during the second round of the Deutsche Bank Championship. It’s the third time in McIlroy’s career on the PGA TOUR that he has had at least two drives of 345 yards in the opening 36 holes of a tournament. But it is the first time that it did not occur at Firestone Country Club with the other two occurrences happening during the 2009 and this year’s World Golf Championships-Bridgestone Invitational.

· Through the first 36 holes of the Deutsche Bank Championship, Jason Dufner is playing the par-3 holes at TPC Boston to a 2.50 scoring average. For Dufner, who is playing in his 173rd event on TOUR, it’s just the third time that he has played the par-3 holes this well (minimum eight par-3 holes played) through the first 36 holes of play. The other occurrences came earlier this year during Dufner’s second-place finish at the Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial and in 2004 at the Chrysler Classic of Greensboro.

· Louis Oosthuizen has posted a birdie to bogey ratio of 11.00 through the first two rounds of the Deutsche Bank Championship this week. This is the second-best showing in this category in the history of the Deutsche Bank. Only Sergio Garcia in 2008, who posted a ratio of 12.00, was better. Garcia went on to a fifth-place finish that year. For Oosthuizen personally, it’s also his second-best showing. He posted a ratio of 12.00 earlier this year during his third-place finish at the Shell Houston Open.
