Tee times have been posted for the first round of the RBC Canadian Open, which begins Thursday at Hamilton Golf & Country Club in Ancaster, Ontario, Canada. Here’s a look at some notable groups:
Vijay Singh/Matt Kuchar/Ernie Els: A talented group, all coming off strong finishes overseas. Els, of course, won the British Open – plus, he’s had three other top-five finishes this season; Kuchar posted a T9 finish at the British and has seven top 10s on the season; Singh, who finished T9 at Royal Lytham and St. Annes, has been in the mix a number of times in 2012.
Hunter Mahan/Sean O’Hair/Mike Weir: All three players have had past success in Canada. O’Hair, the defending champion, won by beating Kris Blanks on the first playoff hole in Vancouver. Mahan owns a pair of top fives — T5 in 2007 and T4 in ’04 — and he’s never missed a cut in seven tries in this event. Weir, the native Canadian, finished second in 2004 and T5 in ’08.
Brandt Snedeker/Kyle Stanley/Scott Stallings: All three had strong finishes a week ago. Snedeker tied the 36-hole scoring mark at the British Open and wound up with a T3; Stanley was quietly in the mix before a final-round 76 handed him a T39; Stallings captured his second career PGA TOUR win after posting 68-64-64-68 at the True South Classic in Madison, Miss.
Jim Furyk/Charl Schwartzel/Ben Curtis: A trio of major champions with decent success in Canada. Furyk is the event’s leading money winner who won back-to-back events in ’06 and ’07. Schwartzel, meanwhile, had a T9 finish in his only start here last season; Curtis carded a T20 in 2006.
