Five players that finished among the top 30 in the final FedExCup standings are competing in this week’s Justin Timberlake Shriners Hospitals for Children Open: Nick Watney (4), Ryan Moore (11), Robert Garrigus (23), Scott Piercy (27) and John Huh (29).
Huh enters the final four official PGA TOUR events as the leading candidate for 2012 PGA TOUR Rookie of the Year. In 27 starts, Huh has a victory at the Mayakoba Golf Classic and three other top 10s, and he became just the fifth rookie to play in the TOUR Championship by Coca-Cola since the inception of the FedExCup in 2007.
No player has successfully defended his title in 2012 through 41 events. Jim Furyk (1998-99) is the only repeat winner of the Justin Timberlake Shriners Hospitals for Children Open.
Last year’s Justin Timberlake Shriners Hospitals for Children Open champion Kevin Na led the field in strokes gained-putting at 10.441 for the tournament.
University of Oregon Men’s Golf Coach Casey Martin is in the Justin Timberlake Shriners Hospitals for Children Open field on a sponsor exemption. Martin played earlier this year at the U.S. Open, where he missed the cut.
The official money list comes to the forefront for the final four official events of the 2012 season starting this week in Las Vegas. Players that finish among the top 125 on the money list receive exempt status for 2013, while those that finish inside the top 30 on the money list will earn a start in the 2013 Masters.
