Spencer Levin will miss the remainder of the 2012 PGA TOUR season after having surgery to repair a torn ulnar collateral ligament.

Levin had the surgery, which was performed by Dr. Stephen Shin, on Tuesday at the KerlanJobe Clinic in Los Angeles. Levin, who is in his fourth full season on the PGA TOUR in 2012, posted three top-10s and finished 83rdin the FedExCup standings.

"It was a weird deal," Levin said. "I was just playing golf with my buddies and hit a shot and felt something pop in between my wrist and thumb. After seeing Dr. Shin, I elected to have surgery so I can be back for the start of the 2013 FedExCup season.

“I’m disappointed I am missing some of my favorite tournaments during the fall and was ready to go until getting injured."

The injury occurred on Sept. 17 in Sacramento. According to Levin’s agent, Kevin Canning, the surgeon said the ligament was completely detached.

"Spencer is hopeful to resume full golf activity in eight weeks and should be cleared to play in 10 to 12 weeks," Canning said. "His goal is to be back in time for the Sony Open (in Hawaii).”
