Tim Tebow, an avid golfer, played in the pro-am of the FedEx St. Jude Classic in 2011.
PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. — Masters champion Bubba Watson showed up at Tim Tebow’s celebrity golf event this weekend at TPC Sawgrass bearing a gift for the New York Jets quarterback — his player badge from Sunday’s final round at Augusta National.
Watson gave Tebow the badge with the No. 15 on it, which just happens to be Tebow’s jersey number. The badges are given out to participants with randomly selected numbers, and Watson kept his unopened to give to Tebow on Friday at the gala event at the TPC Sawgrass clubhouse prior to Saturday’s Tim Tebow Foundation Celebrity Golf Classic.
"I knew I’d see Tim in a week," Watson told the Jacksonville Times-Union. "I told my caddie, I’m going to keep it unopened and I’m going to hand it to him.
"I just felt like I should give it to him. It’s his football number and I thought he might want it more now that I won."
Tebow told the newspaper: "It was very special. He didn’t have to do anything like that. He’s just an amazing guy. He’s been so supportive of me and my foundation. He really cares about giving back and making a difference.
"He has a huge platform and I think it will continue to increase because he’s so real. He’s so genuine."
