AUGUSTA, Ga. — The Masters is full of endless traditions, Furman Bisher included.
Bisher had covered every Masters since 1950 until he passed away last month at the age of 93.
To honor Bisher, the longtime and legendary sportswriter who wrote for the Atlanta Journal-Consitution, among others, the hat he would wear at the Masters was placed at his customary seat in the media center.
Bisher retired in 2009 after 59 years at the AJC, writing his final column on the same typewriter he used in 1950. Bisher received countless awards during his storied career, including the Red Smith Award for sports journalism and the William D. Richardson Award from the Golf Writers Association of America. In 2011, he was the inaugural inductee to the Atlanta Press Club’s Hall of Fame.
