It was announced Monday that striker Eric Hassli had been traded from Toronto FC to FC Dallas, officially confirming a deal that the Texas club itself first publicly acknowledged on Twitter last week. Follow GOAL.COM CANADA on Twitter
In an unorthodox move, Dallas' Twitter account posted late Friday that an agreement to send Hassli to North Texas was close to being done. On Monday, Dallas and TFC confirmed details of the deal, which will see FCD claim the 31-year-old Designated Player in exchange for a conditional second round pick in the 2014 MLS SuperDraft.
Hassli first joined Toronto in July of last year after fellow DP striker Danny Koevermans was injured. In seven league appearances for TFC, Hassli scored three times.
“Eric requested a move for family related reasons and we committed to him we would make every effort to do so, providing the deal was favorable for the team," Toronto FC president Kevin Payne said in a statement. "We are satisfied with the terms of the trade. If Eric has a productive year for Dallas the consideration paid to us will be greater."
The Hassli deal is the second time Dallas has traded for a TFC DP in recent months, with Canadian international Julian de Guzman having been sent to Texas last July. De Guzman has since signed with Jahn Regensburg in Germany.
