Top undrafted prospects

The SportsXchange

The 2012 NFL Draft has come and gone with 253 selections now offical. But the work is far from done as therer are hundreds of undrafted free agents who will be signed over the next 24 hours.

In most cases, signing as an undrafted free agent can be more advantageous for a prospect than being drafted in the later rounds. Signing after the draft usually gives players options with several teams calling for their services. Prospects can examine different situations and sign with the team that is the best fit. Tony Romo, Arian Foster and James Harrison are just a few of the numerous examples of current players who went undrafted, but have enjoyed success in the NFL.

Whether because of durability, character or talent concerns, below are NFLDraftScout's top undrafted prospects.

Top Undrafted - Top-10 overall

1. RB Chris Polk, Washington - Handled a heavy workload at Washington and long-term durability concerns pushed him down draft boards

2. OG James Brown, Troy - Standout left tackle projects best inside at pro level; athleticism & work ethic quietly make him a scout favorite

3. CB Leonard Johnson, Iowa State - Tough and competitive, but undersized (5-10, 196) with short arms (28.5") and very ordinary speed (4.71)

4. OG Lucas Nix, Pittsburgh - Gritty, powerful blocker with some developmental potential, but lacks of NFL athleticism left him undrafted

5. DT Hebron Fangupo, BYU - Stout, naturally strong player who can anchor, but older prospect (turns 27 in July) with limited overall range

6. CB Chase Minnifield, Virginia - Tough with NFL bloodlines (son of Frank), but microfracture procedure in January took him off several draft boards

7. FS Aaron Henry, Wisconsin - Former cornerback, moved to free safety in 2010, but lacks consistency and comes with an injury history

8. OLB Tyler Nielsen, Iowa - Instinctive and physical defender, but some athletic limitations and durability concerns have hurt his NFL potential

9. DT Marcus Forston, Miami (Fla.) - Offers some upside, but raw and struggled with injuries and could have really benefited from senior season

10. RB Tauren Poole, Tennessee - Disappointing 2011 season after back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons, lacking eye-popping traits
