Top-rated recruit Noel, Kentucky under NCAA microscope

NCAA investigators were at Everett High School in Massachusetts on Tuesday to inquire about Nerlens Noel, the nation's top-ranked recruit who signed with Kentucky.

A New York Times report said the 6-foot-10 center scheduled to graduate from Tilton School, a New Hampshire boarding school, this month was being investigated by Cindi Merrill and Frank Smith, assistant directors of enforcement with the NCAA.

The school's principal, Louis Baldi, said the 75-minute interview revolved around well-being questions, not compliance or academics, and didn't feel like an investigation. The focus of the inquiry is likely former Providence assistant Chris Driscoll, a former Providence assistant banned by Tilton earlier in the year. There is also some interest in Noel's financial records, the Times reported.

"It was conversation, very collegial," he told the Times.

Noel attended Everett High School as a freshman and sophomore.
