At this point in the fantasy football season, many GMs are feeling wonderful about their prospects for the remainder of the season, while some are ripping their hair out. With some big players off because of the bye, and some out due to injury, the free agent pool is a much-needed component this week. The pool is a little thin this week in Yahoo! fantasy leagues, but there are still three players owned in less than 65 percent of leagues that come to mind as solid pickups.
Greg Olsen, Carolina Panthers, 61 percent owned
Out of four games this season, Olsen has been stellar in three of them. Last week against the Atlanta Falcons, he made six catches for 89 yards and one touchdown as the Panthers nearly pulled off the upset. He has 20 catches for 256 yards and coupled with second-year quarterback Cam Newton, could have a big game against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Alex Smith, San Francisco 49ers, 50 percent owned
The 49ers are so good that Smith could realistically make this list every week. No matter what he does, he is still overlooked by fantasy GMs. Smith didn't have a great performance in their victory against the New York Jets, but he still picked up another win as a starter (33-35 record, 14-4 since start of 2011). This week, San Francisco will welcome the Buffalo Bills and their terrible defense to the west coast for what should be a 30 point output from the 49ers.
Matt Hasselback, Tennessee Titans, 6 percent owned
Hasselback will make his first start of the season when the Titans battle the Minnesota Vikings. Hasselback will be stepping in for Jake Locker, who has been ruled out because of a shoulder injury suffered in the week four loss to the Houston Texans. When Hasselback entered the game last week, he was solid, throwing for 193 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions. A year ago, Hasselback started all 16 games for the Titans, but was moved aside in favor of Locker in the preseason. He threw for 3,571 yards and 18 touchdowns, making me think he can still provide an impact against the Vikings.
