After 20 years and nearly 1,000 episodes, WWE Raw has set the standard for televised pro wrestling. I have spent half my life watching Raw on Monday nights and there are many moments I'll never forget. Take a closer look at the top five moments in WWE Raw history.
5. 2010: Nexus invasion
Seeing a bunch of WWE rookies invade a main event hardly seems worthy of being one of the top five moments in Raw history. But there was something about the intensity and ferocity of the Nexus attack that left an indelible mark in my memory. Even the Raw announcers seemed genuinely shocked and terrified.
4. 2001: WWE buys WCW
The Monday Night Wars came to a conclusion when Vince McMahon purchased WCW in 2001. Although WCW was collapsing faster than the force of gravity, I was sad to see the greatest era in wrestling history come to an end on WWE Raw. The storyline was that Shane McMahon bought WCW instead of his father.
3. 1998: DX parody of the Nation of Domination
Wrestling factions have spoofed other factions dozens of times. But when DX did a parody of the Nation of Domination on WWE Raw, I never laughed so hard in my life. Triple H was priceless as "The Crock" and X-Pac was hilarious as "Mizark Henry." The Attitude Era was in full swing at this time.
2. 1998: Steve Austin attacks Vince McMahon in hospital
1998 was the greatest year in WWE Raw history. I believe the feud between Austin and McMahon is the greatest in wrestling history. The funniest moment in their feud came when Austin visited McMahon in the hospital on Raw. After pounding away at the WWE CEO, Austin hit McMahon on the head with a bed pan.
1. 2011: CM Punk promo
At a time when the action was becoming stale on WWE Raw, CM Punk shook things up when he delivered the greatest promo in wrestling history. Wrestlers have delivered "worked shoots" before, but never like this in the WWE. CM Punk's shocking promo is the greatest moment in WWE Raw history.
Honorable mention WWE Raw moments
DX parody of the McMahons, Steve Austin confronts Mike Tyson, Steve Austin drives a beer truck to the ring, The Rock: "This Is Your Life," Triple H invades Randy Orton's home, Vince McMahon is blown up in a car explosion
Patrick Michael lives in New Orleans and has always been a big fan of pro wrestling. Patrick's favorite wrestling promotion was Mid-South Wrestling back in the 1980s.
